Climate change exposes a stark global inequity: those who contribute the least to the crisis are often the most severely affected, while wealthier nations and corporations—long the largest emitters—frequently escape full accountability. This disparity highlights not only an environmental emergency but also a moral responsibility to pursue justice in climate action.
In Canada and other developed countries, many people want to make sustainable choices, yet the marketplace often makes this difficult. Even as awareness of climate impacts grows, many products and systems still prioritize profit over ecological health. As a result, consumers may feel guilty or powerless when available options do not align with their values. Holding corporations accountable and ensuring they adopt climate-responsible practices is essential to reducing this burden and enabling meaningful, systemic change.
My artwork explores these themes by emphasizing humanity’s deep interdependence with the earth and the urgent need to protect it. I have embedded a photograph of a human figure, that I sculpted from clay, into a speculative landscape, suggesting a continuous, shared existence between people and the planet. It reminds us that positive change becomes possible when our actions—individually and collectively—honour and support the health of the natural world.
