Kneeling Figure with Voronoi Arm, 2024
Terracotta with underglaze, slip, 3D printed arm (PLA), and plaster
14″H x 13.5″W x 9″D
This sculpture is an amalgam of earthen clay and 3D-printed biodegradable plastic, commenting on the evolving relationship between the organic and the synthetic in contemporary life. The hand-sculpted clay body, with its ruptured surface and imperfect contours, speaks to corporeal vulnerability in a state of transformation. In contrast, the engineered, mechanically printed arm in a Voronoi pattern, disrupts the body’s continuity, evoking themes of posthumanism and technological integration. A Voronoi pattern, recalling the porosity of human bone, creates a dynamic interplay of organic and geometric forms. This disjunction explores identity and embodiment as impacted by digital augmentation and biotechnological enhancement, suggesting a body that is not merely repaired or extended, but fundamentally reimagined.
